Pastoral Care

At Sacred Heart College, our approach to student wellbeing is guided by the Bible:

“I am the good shepherd; I know my own, and my own know me.”

joHN 10:14

We believe that truly knowing and understanding each student is essential in helping them become the best they can be. Our House System, in conjunction with the below support networks, plays a key role in fostering a strong sense of belonging, support and community throughout a student’s journey at the College.

The Pastoral Care Group Teacher

From the beginning of Year 7, students are placed in a Pastoral Care Group (PCG) within their House. Each morning, they meet with their PCGT, who provides mentorship and guidance, fostering relationships within the group and ensuring a safe and caring environment.

These daily gatherings allow students to share news, receive important updates, and engage in faith-based activities. The PCGT remains with the same group for all six years, becoming a trusted and significant figure in the students' lives.

The Assistant Deputy Principal (ADP) of the Year Group

Each Assistant Deputy Principal (ADP) oversees the pastoral and academic welfare of a year group. They work closely with PCGTs to understand and support students, ensuring their holistic development.

ADPs are also the primary point of contact for parents and caregivers regarding concerns beyond day-to-day matters. Throughout their time at the College, students will ideally have two ADPs, each serving for three alternate years, providing continuity and support as they progress through school.

The ADPs for 2025 are:

  • Year 7 - Mrs Melissa Traeger
  • Year 8 - Mrs Wiesia Collins
  • Year 9 - Ms Amanda Knox
  • Year 10 - Mr Justin Whitt
  • Year 11 - Mr Brett Dayman
  • Year 12 - Mr Adrian Goh

College Psychologist and Counselling Team

The College employs three full-time psychologists and counsellors who work proactively to support student wellbeing. They meet regularly with ADPs to review students requiring additional care and offer programs such as Youth Mental Health First Aid Training to equip students with skills to support themselves and their peers.

Social Justice Administrator & Parent Engagement Coordinator

Our Social Justice Administration Assistant and Parent Engagement Coordinator, supported by the College P&F, provide assistance to families experiencing hardship or distress, including but not limited to a meal train.

Health Centre

The Sacred Heart College Health Centre provides a compassionate and professional healthcare service to students, ensuring their wellbeing while at school. Our dedicated staff are available to manage injuries, illnesses, and emergencies that may arise during the school day, as well assist with medication administration. The Health Centre takes a collaborative approach, working closely with parents/caregivers, Assistant Deputy Principals, the Psychology and Counselling team and teachers to provide holistic care that meets each student’s needs.

Careers Guidance

The College has two highly experienced Careers Counsellors (one full-time and one part-time) who guide students in subject selection, career planning, and post-school pathways.

Chaplains & Campus Ministry

We are fortunate to have strong connections with Our Lady of Grace Parish (North Beach) and Our Lady of the Missions Parish (Craigie). Parish priests regularly celebrate Mass at the College and offer spiritual support to students.

Our Dean of Campus Ministry, a full-time staff member, is also available to students seeking spiritual guidance and discussion.
